The History of Recipes
Experts have tracked the existence of recipes far back into distant history, in truth as far back into history as the Egyptians, and possibly even further. Having said that, generally, these ancient records were just very simple pictorial recipes for preparing food.
Moving our culinary historical trip onwards, there were two interesting cookery books dating from the 14th Century - one book called `Forme of Cury`, and another titled `Curye on Inglish`. Perhaps surprisingly, they are not about the curry that we all know today, but rather recipes for the types of food on the tables of the upper classes. In the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought back many new spices and herbs from Arab cuisine, including coriander, basil and rosemary. The introduction of these new foods and spices was responsible for an increase in manuscripts on food, the majority of which are now in private libraries. The arrival of TV brings us celebrity chefs and the accompanying recipe books. Which pretty much brings us up to date and the invention of the internet, allowing everybody to access massive numbers of recipes just like those on the site you are now reading. |
We hope you enjoy this Basic Salsa recipe.
