The History of Recipes
Written recipes as an idea can be traced far back into distant history, in truth as far into history as the early Egyptians, and possibly even further. Interesting though that is, in the main part, these early recipes were just basic pictorial instructions for preparing food.
Closer to modern times, there were some recipe books which date from the 14th Century : a recipe book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another called `Curye on Inglish`. Surprisingly, these two books are unconnected to the indian food that is familiar to us all today, but rather recipes for the types of food prepared by the chefs of the rich and powerful of the period. Later, in the 15th century, people returning from the crusades brought us many spices and herbs from Arab cuisine, such as parsley, basil and rosemary. These new foods and spices created a torrent in recipe publications, most of which still exist in private libraries. Like it or not, the introduction of TV gave us TV cookery programs and the accompanying recipe books. And that brings us to the present day and the internet revolution, allowing everyone to access thousands of recipes like those on the site you are now reading. |
We hope you enjoy this Beef Skillet Dinner recipe.
