1 cup margarine
3/4 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 pinch vanilla powder
2 cup flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
2 cup chocolate chips
Directions
Cream butter and sugars. Beat in eggs. Combine dry ingredients.
Blend. Stir in chocolate chips. Bake at 375* for 12 minutes or until

The History of Recipes
It is possible to follow the history of `recipes` way back into antiquity, in truth as far back into recorded history as early Egypt, and maybe even further. In practice though, in the main part, these old cookbooks were just very simple pictorial recipes for preparing food.
In fact, the most ancient recipe discovered, according to historians are a few clay tablets in Sumerian which recount the preparation of bread which is then used to make a drink, quite possibly a form of beer as it is recorded as having made people feel exhilarated and blissful. Later on, in The time of the romans around 25BC a roman called Apicius compiled a few scripts which described recipes prepared by his fellow Romans. In his publication, Apicius describes how the meals of wealthy Romans were separated into hors d`oeuvre, main course and dessert, known in latin as `Gustatio, Primae Mensae and Secundae Mensae`. He also informs us how the cooks of his times made use of many different aromatic flavors, including a few that will be familiar to modern cooks like thyme, fennel and dill. Later on in the 1400s, people returning from the crusades brought us many new foods and herbs from the holy land, including spices such as coriander, basil and rosemary. The introduction of these new tastes prompted an increase in recipe manuscripts, the majority of which are kept safe in private collections. By the time we get to the 20th century, cookery books were increasing in popularity mostly as a result of better eduction, increased leisure time and having more money. The arrival of television brings us celebrity chefs and the demand for the accompanying recipe books. And that pretty much brings us to the present day and the invention of the internet, allowing everyone to search through thousands of recipes like those on sites such as this. |
