The History of Recipes
Experts have tracked the existence of recipes back into the distant past, at least as far into history as ancient Egypt, and possibly even further than that. Having said that, sadly, these old cookbooks were just simple hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for meal preparation.
As our culinary historical trip moves to more modern times there are some recipe books which appeared in the 14th Century - a book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Amusingly, these two books have no connection with the curry that is served today, but rather recipes for the types of food on the menues of the upper classes of those days. In the 15th century, the Crusaders brought back many foods and herbs from the East, such as coriander, basil and rosemary. These new spices and herbs led to an outbreak in publications on food, some of which are now in private libraries. The introduction of television brought us TV cookery programs and the recipe books that accompanied them. And that pretty much brings us to the present day and the invention of the internet, allowing us all to search through massive numbers of recipes just like those on this web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Carrot Peanut Soup (Lacto Vegetarian) recipe.
