The History of Recipes
Historians have tracked the existance of recipes way back into ancient history, at least as far back as the ancient Egyptians, and quite possibly further than that. Interesting though that maybe, in the main part, these old recipes were just primitive pictorial recipes for meal preparation.
As our culinary historical trip moves on a few more years we have two recipe books which date from the fourteenth century - one book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Although the titles sound familiar, these have no connection with the indian food that is familiar to us all today, but instead recipes for the types of meals prepared by the cooks of the rich people of the time. By the arrival of the 20th century, recipe books were in great demand, mostly due to more people being able to read, more leisure time and being a little richer. |
