The History of Recipes

During the succeeding few centuries, the rich and powerful families of Europe competed to lay on the most exotic meals, and as a result cooks and their recipe collections became highly prized. Nevertheless, it wasn`t until the 19th century that fine cookery and recipe collections rose to prominence. The Famous Mrs Isabella Beeton in the UK, and Fannie Farmer in the US, devoted much of their lives to collating, verifying, and writing down recipes to help cooks of their time.

By the arrival of the 1900s, cookery publications are highly popular mostly due to increased literacy, more free time and disposable income.
