The History of Recipes
We are able to track the history of meal recipes back into distant history, certainly as far back as pharonic Egypt, and maybe even further. Having said that, in the main part, these ancient cook books were just primitive pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing food.
As we move on, we have a couple of interesting recipe books which were published in the 1300s : a recipe book called `Forme of Cury`, and another named `Curye on Inglish`. Perhaps surprisingly, these books are unconnected to the curry that appears on menues today, but rather descriptions of the types of food served to the rich people of the period. Later, in the fifteenth century, knights returning from the crusades brought us many foods and spices from Arab cuisine, including spices such as parsley, basil and rosemary. These new foods and spices created an eruption in manuscripts on cooking, some of which are now in academic collections. The revolution that is television brought us cooking programs and the demand for the accompanying recipe books. Which brings us neatly to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, allowing everybody to access thousands of recipes like those on this web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Kluski Z Makiem I recipe.
