The History of Recipes
Recipes as an idea can be traced back into the far past, at least as far as ancient Egypt, and quite possibly further than that. Interesting though that is, mostly, these early recipes were just very basic hieroglyphic instructions for preparing meals.
During the time of the Romans a man called Apicius created a number of scripts describing recipes enjoyed by the Romans. In his scrolls, he describes how the meals of wealthy Romans were separated into hors d`oeuvres, main meal and desserts, something that is very familiar to us today. This early Roman chef informs us how the ancient chefs made use of many different spices, including a few that will be familiar to modern chefs for example thyme, rue and asafoetida. Later on, in the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought us many spices and herbs from Arab cooking, including spices like parsley and basil. These new foods and tastes created an explosion in books on cooking, some of which are now in private collections. The arrival of TV brings us cooking programs and the recipe books that accompanied them. Which brings us neatly up to date and the invention of the internet, permitting us all to search through massive numbers of recipes like those on this web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Low Fat Taco Dip recipe.
