The History of Recipes
It is possible to read the history of `recipes` way back into antiquity, in truth as far back into recorded history as the ancient Egyptians, and maybe further still. Interesting though that maybe, these, old recipes were just simple pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for meal preparation.
Later on, in The time of the roman empire 25BC a roman called Apicius compiled a few scripts which described recipes enjoyed by wealthy Romans. In his works, Apicius tells us how the roman meals were separated into hors d`oeuvres, main course and afters, a very modern way of dining. He also describes how the Romans were skilled in the use of a good variety of aromatic flavours, including many that are still in use today like bay, mint and parsley. For the decades that followed, the rich and powerful families of Wesstern Europe tried to serve the most exotic banquets, and because of this the best cooks and their recipe collections were greatly in demand. Even so, it wasn`t until the nineteenth century that cooking and cookery books became really popular. The Famous Mrs Isabella Beeton in the UK, and the equally well-known Fannie Merritt Farmer in the US, devoted much of their lives to collecting, trying out, and recording recipes to help cooks of their time. The arrival of television brings us celebrity chefs and the accompanying recipe books. And that pretty much brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, permitting everyone to access massive numbers of recipes such as those found on sites such as the one you are reading now. |
We hope you enjoy this Orange Champagne Cocktail recipe.
