2 cup self rising flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 cup chopped dried apple muffins:
1 package mix
1 egg
3/4 cup milk
1/4 cup vegetable oil
Directions
Mix: Combine and store in an airtight container.
Apple Muffins: preheat oven to 400. Mix all ingredients just until
moistened. Fill greased muffin cups 3/4 full. Bake 15-18 minutes, or
until golden brown.

The History of Recipes
Transcribed cooking instructions as a concept can be traced far back into ancient history, at least as far back as pharonic Egypt, and quite possibly further than that. Interesting though that maybe, generally, these old cook books were just very basic pictorial recipes for food preparation.
Interestingly, the most ancient recipe discovered so far, according to historians is a collection of ancient tablets in the Sumerian language describing the baking of bread which is then used to make a drink, quite possibly a form of beer as it is recorded as having made anyone who drank it feel blissful and exhilarated. During Roman times 25BC a man called Apicius created a collection of scripts which described recipes enjoyed by the Romans. In his publication, he recounts how the roman meals were divided into hors d`oeuvres, main meal and afters, a very modern way of dining. Additionally, he tells us how the early Romans used many different spices, including a few that will be familiar to modern cooks such as bay, fennel and dill. During the succeeding few centuries, the rich families of Europe tried to serve up the most exotic meals, and because of this the best chefs and their recipe collections were greatly in demand. Even so, it wasn`t until the 19th century that formal cookery and recipe books became really popular. Mrs Beeton in the UK, and the equally well-known Fannie Merritt Farmer in the USA, dedicated their lives to assembling, testing, and publishing recipes for their fellow cooks to enjoy. Like it or not, the introduction of TV brought us celebrity chefs and the recipe books that accompanied them. Which pretty much brings us up to date and the invention of computers and the internet, permitting everybody to search through thousands of recipes like those on this recipe site. |
