The History of Recipes
It is quite possible to follow the history of recipes way back into history, in truth as far back into history as the Egyptians, and maybe even further. However, sadly, these early recipes were just very basic pictorial instructions for food preparation.
Progressing into The time of the roman empire 25BC a roman called Apicius compiled a collection of scripts which described recipes enjoyed by the Romans. In his scrolls, he describes how the meals of wealthy Romans were split into hors d`oeuvres, entrees and dessert, a style of dining still practiced today. Additionally, he recounts how the Romans made use of many aromatic flavors, including some familiar names like basil, mint and asafoetida. Later on in the 1400s, knights returning from the crusades brought back many new foods, spices and herbs from the East, including spices such as coriander, parsley, and basil. These new herbs and spices caused an outbreak in publications on food, many of which are kept safe in private cookery archives. The introduction of the TV brings us celebrity chefs and the spin-off recipe books. Which pretty much brings us up to date and the invention of the internet, permitting everybody to search through massive numbers of recipes like the ones you can find on sites such as this. |
We hope you enjoy this Apple Scones recipe.
