The History of Recipes
It is possible to track the history of written recipes back into ancient history, in fact as far back into recorded history as pharonic Egypt, and potentially, even further back. Having said that, these, old cookbooks were just very basic hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for meal preparation.
Later, we have a couple of books which were published in the fourteenth century : a cookery book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another named `Curye on Inglish`. Don`t be fooled by the titles though, these two books have no connection with the spicy food that is popular today, but instead descriptions of the types of meals on the menus of the rich people of those days. By the time we get to the 1900s, cooking publications were starting to become popular mostly as a result of more people being able to read, people having increased leisure time and having more money to spend. |
