The History of Recipes
Academics have proved the existence of recipes back into distant history, at least as far into history as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and maybe even further. Interesting though that maybe, generally, these old cook books were just primitive pictorial recipes for preparing food.
As our culinary historical trip moves to more modern times we have two recipe books published in the 1300s - a cookery book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary titled `Curye on Inglish`. Amusingly, they are not about the curry that appears on menues today, but instead descriptions of the types of food served to the nobility of the time. By the arrival of the twentieth century, recipe books were in great demand, as a result of better eduction, increased leisure time and having more disposable income. |
