The History of Recipes
We are able to read the history of `recipes` way back into the distant past, in fact as far back into history as the ancient Egyptians, and potentially, even further back. However, in the main part, these old cookbooks were just primitive pictorial instructions for preparing food.
As our culinary historical trip moves to more modern times there are a couple of books which appeared in the fourteenth century - a recipe book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary called `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are somewhat misleading tho`, these books are nothing to do with the curry that is popular today, but rather recipes for the types of meals on the menues of the upper classes of the period. By the arrival of the twentieth century, recipe books are starting to become popular mostly as a result of increased literacy, more leisure time and being a little richer. |
