The History of Recipes
We can track the history of meal recipes far back into ancient history, at least as far back into history as the early Egyptians, and maybe even further. However, in the main part, these early records were just simple pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing food.
Later, there were some recipe books dating from the 1300s : a recipe book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another titled `Curye on Inglish`. Surprisingly, these books are unconnected to the indian food that is served today, but instead recipes for the types of food prepared for the upper classes of the period. Later on in the 1400s, people returning from the crusades brought us many foods, spices and herbs from the holy land, including spices such as parsley, basil and rosemary. These new herbs and spices created a torrent in recipe manuscripts, some of which are kept safe in private libraries. The introduction of the TV gave us TV cookery programs and the accompanying recipe books. And that brings us to the present day and the invention of the internet, permitting us all to access thousands of recipes like the ones you can find on our web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Aunt Ruby's Fresh Tomato Relish recipe.
