The History of Recipes
Written recipes as a concept can be observed way back into the distant past, in fact as far back into history as the early Egyptians, and maybe further still. Interesting though that is, mostly, these old recipes were just primitive hieroglyphic recipes for preparing food.
Continuing our culinary historical journey, there are some books from the 14th Century ; one book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another titled `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are somewhat misleading tho`, they are unconnected to the curry that is popular today, but instead recipes for the types of food eaten by the rich and wealthy people of that period. When we get to the twentieth century, recipe books are greatly in demand due to higher levels of literacy, people having more leisure time and having more money. |
