The History of Recipes
Written recipes as a concept can be traced back into distant history, certainly as far as the ancient Egyptians, and potentially, even further back. Having said that, these, ancient cook books were just very basic hieroglyphic recipes for food preparation.
Continuing our culinary historical journey, we have a couple of cookery books dating from the fourteenth century : a cookery book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Don`t be fooled by the titles though, these have no connection with the curry that is served today, but rather accounts of the types of food cooked for the upper classes of the period. Later on, in the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought us a variety of spices and herbs from middle-east cuisine, including spices like parsley, basil and rosemary. These new culinary innovations prompted an explosion in manuscripts on food, some of which are now in private libraries. The TV revolution brought us TV cooks and the accompanying recipe books. Which pretty much brings us up to date and the invention of computers and the internet, allowing everyone to search through thousands of recipes like those on this web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Bermuda Salmon recipe.
