The History of Recipes
We are able to follow the history of `recipes` back into ancient history, in truth as far into history as ancient Egypt, and possibly even further than that. In practice though, sadly, these ancient cook books were just very simple pictorial recipes for food preparation.
Later on, in The time of the roman empire around 25BC a man called Apicius created some documents which described recipes cooked by wealthy Romans. In his publication, Apicius describes how the roman meals were separated into starters, main course and dessert, a style of dining still practiced today. Aspicius describes how the ancient cooks were skilled in the use of a good variety of herbs, including a few you will know like bay, mint and asafoetida. Later, in the fifteenth century, knights returning from the crusades brought back many new spices and herbs from the Middle-East, such as coriander, parsley, basil and rosemary. These new culinary innovations led to a torrent in recipe publications, many of which are kept safe in private libraries. The revolution that is television brings us celebrity TV chefs and the recipe books that accompanied them. And that pretty much brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, allowing us all to access massive numbers of recipes such as those found on the site you are now reading. |
We hope you enjoy this Blueberry Or Cherry Muffins recipe.
