The History of Recipes
It is quite possible to trace the history of written cooking instructions back into antiquity, in fact as far as the Egyptians, and maybe even further. However, sadly, these old cook books were just simple pictorial recipes for preparing meals.
Moving on, there are two books from the 1300s ; a book called `Forme of Cury`, and another entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Surprisingly, these are unconnected to the indian food that is served today, but instead accounts of the types of food on the tables of the nobility of that time. By the advent of the 1900s, cooking books were starting to become popular due to better eduction, increased leisure time and a general increase in wealth. |
