The History of Recipes
Recipes as an idea can be tracked back into ancient history, in fact as far back into recorded history as pharonic Egypt, and quite possibly further than that. Having said that, these, old records were just simple hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for food preparation.
Continuing our culinary historical journey, we have a couple of books which were published in the fourteenth century - a recipe book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Don`t be fooled by the titles though, these books are nothing to do with the indian food that is popular today, but instead recipes for the types of meals enjoyed by the rich and powerful of the time. When we get to the 20th century, cooking publications were starting to become popular as a result of increased literacy, people having increased free time and disposable income. |
