The History of Recipes
It is quite possible to prove the history of recipes way back into ancient history, in truth as far back into recorded history as the ancient Egyptians, and potentially, even further back. However, mostly, these early recipes were just very basic pictorial instructions for meal preparation.
During the time of the Romans a roman called Apicius created a few documents detailing recipes cooked by wealthy roman citizens. He recounts how the meals of wealthy Romans were separated into hors d`oeuvre, entrees and desserts, something we still use today. This early Roman chef recounts how the cooks of his times made use of many spices, including some that we all recognise such as bay, rue and parsley. Over the next few hundred years, the upper classes competed to offer the most exotic meals, and consequentially chefs and their recipes were highly sought after. However, it wasn`t until the 1800s that fine cooking and recipe collections became really popular. The Famous Mrs Beeton in the UK, and the equally famous Fannie Farmer in the US, dedicated the best years of their lives to collecting, testing, and writing down popular recipes of the day. The arrival of TV gave us TV cookery programs and the recipe books that accompanied them. Which brings us neatly up to date and the internet revolution, allowing everyone to search through massive numbers of recipes like the ones you can find on this recipe site. |
We hope you enjoy this Chicken & Pepperoni Pasta Sauce recipe.
