The History of Recipes
Written recipes as an idea can be found way back into the distant past, at least as far as early Egypt, and possibly even further. Interesting though that maybe, these, early recipes were just primitive pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing meals.
Moving our culinary historical trip onwards, there are two interesting books which appeared in the 1300s : one book called `Forme of Cury`, and another called `Curye on Inglish`. Although the titles sound familiar, these books have no connection with the indian curry that we all know today, but rather accounts of the types of meals enjoyed by the rich people of the period. Later on, in the 15th century, the Crusaders brought back many foods and herbs from the holy land, including spices such as coriander, parsley, basil and rosemary. The introduction of these new herbs and spices caused an explosion in recipe books, the majority of which are now in private cookery archives. The arrival of TV brought us cooking programs and the demand for the accompanying recipe books. Which pretty much brings us to the present day and the invention of the internet, allowing everybody to search through thousands of recipes just like those on this recipe site. |
We hope you enjoy this Chicken Salad Ii recipe.
