The History of Recipes
It is quite feasible to track the history of written cooking instructions way back into the far past, in truth as far as ancient Egypt, and maybe even further. Interesting though that maybe, sadly, these early records were just primitive pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for meal preparation.
Moving on, we have two interesting cookery books which appeared in the 1300s : a book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Amusingly, these are not about the indian food that appears on menues today, but instead recipes for the types of meals cooked for the wealthy. Later, in the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought back many new foods and herbs from middle-east cuisine, including spices such as parsley, basil and rosemary. These new spices and herbs prompted a torrent in recipe publications, some of which are now in private libraries. Like it or not, the introduction of TV brings us celebrity chefs and the recipe books that accompanied them. Which pretty much brings us to the present day and the invention of the internet, allowing us all to access massive numbers of recipes such as those found on sites such as the one you are reading now. |
We hope you enjoy this Chicken Salad Supreme recipe.
