The History of Recipes
It is quite feasible to track the history of transcribed cooking instructions back into the far past, in truth as far back into recorded history as the Egyptians, and maybe even further. Interesting though that maybe, in the main part, these ancient recipes were just primitive hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for preparing meals.
Progressing into The time of the romans around 25BC a man called Apicius created a number of documents which described recipes prepared by his fellow Romans. In his scrolls, he tells us how the meals of wealthy Romans were separated into hors d`oeuvres, main meal and dessert, something we still use today. He also informs us how the ancient chefs made use of a good variety of herbs, including a few you will know like bay, rue and dill. Later, in the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought us many new foods, spices and herbs from the holy land, including spices such as coriander, parsley, basil and rosemary. The introduction of these new herbs and spices created an eruption in recipe publications, most of which are now in private libraries. Like it or not, the introduction of TV brings us celebrity chefs and the spin-off recipe books. And that pretty much brings us to the present day and the invention of the internet, permitting us all to search through thousands of recipes such as those found on this web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Chili Cheese Burgers recipe.
