The History of Recipes
It is possible to trace the history of written recipes back into ancient history, in truth as far into history as early Egypt, and maybe even further. Interesting though that is, in the main part, these early cook books were just very simple pictorial instructions for meal preparation.
The truth of the matter is, the most ancient recipe found, according to experts in ancient history are some ancient tablets in the Sumerian language which describe the baking of bread which is then used to make a drink, quite possibly a form of beer as it is recorded as having made drinkers feel wonderful. Later on, in The time of the roman empire around 25BC a man called Apicius created a number of scripts which described recipes enjoyed by his fellow Romans. In his scrolls, he recounts how the meals were divided into appetizers, entrees and dessert, something we still use today. Aspicius describes how the Roman chefs made use of a wide range of herbs and spices, including some that we all recognise for example bay, rue and dill. In the fifteenth century, knights returning from the crusades brought back a variety of spices and herbs from the East, including spices such as basil and coriander. These new herbs and spices prompted an outbreak in books on cooking, most of which are now in private cookery archives. Like it or not, the introduction of television brings us TV chefs and the recipe books that accompanied them. And that brings us to the present day and the invention of the internet, permitting everybody to access massive numbers of recipes like the ones you can find on this web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Chili Dip _ recipe.
