The History of Recipes
Experts have proved the existance of recipes back into history, in fact as far back into history as the early Egyptians, and maybe even further. However, generally, these ancient cookbooks were just very simple hieroglyphic instructions for meal preparation.
In fact, the most ancient recipe found, according to experts in ancient history are some tablets in Sumerian which recount the baking of bread which is then used to make a drink, quite possibly a form of beer as it is recorded as making drinkers feel exhilarated and blissful. Later on, there are two interesting recipe books which were published in the 14th Century : a book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary titled `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are somewhat misleading tho`, these books have no connection with the indian food that is served today, but instead recipes for the types of food prepared by the cooks of the nobility of the time. For the centuries that followed, the powerful families of Wesstern Europe tried to serve up the most extravagent banquests, and as a result the best cooks and their collection of recipes increased in prestige. However, it wasn`t until the 19th century that haute cuisine and cookery books rose to prominence. Mrs Isabella Beeton in the UK, and the equally well-known Fannie Merritt Farmer in the USA, dedicated the best years of their lives to assembling, testing, and writing down recipes to help cooks of their time. The introduction of the TV brought us celebrity TV chefs and the demand for the spin-off recipe books. Which pretty much brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, permitting everybody to search through massive numbers of recipes just like those on this site. |
We hope you enjoy this Chimichangas recipe.
