The History of Recipes
Food historians have traced the existence of recipes far back into ancient history, at least as far back as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and maybe further still. Interesting though that is, sadly, these ancient cook books were just very basic pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for preparing food.
As our culinary historical trip moves on a few more years there were two recipe books published in the 14th Century : a cookery book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another named `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are somewhat misleading tho`, these books are not about the spicy food that is popular today, but rather accounts of the types of food cooked for the nobility of that period. In the fifteenth century, people returning from the crusades brought us many foods and spices from the holy land, including coriander, parsley, basil and rosemary. These new foods and tastes created an increase in cookery books, many of which still exist in private cookery archives. Like it or not, the introduction of TV brings us TV chefs and the recipe books that accompanied them. Which pretty much brings us to the present day and the internet revolution, allowing everybody to access thousands of recipes like those on our web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Chipotle Onion Salsa recipe.
