8 oz package cream cheese
2 tbsp milk
2 tbsp chopped green pepper
2 tbsp minced onion
3 oz chipped beef, shredded
1/2 cup sour cream
Directions
Combine cream cheese and milk over low heat. Add remaining
ingredients and mix well. Make at least 12 hours in advance for best
flavor. Great with cracker assortment. May be served cold or warm.

The History of Recipes
We are able to track the history of meal recipes back into history, in truth as far as ancient Egypt, and possibly even further than that. Having said that, these, early cookbooks were just very simple pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for food preparation.
The truth of the matter is, the most ancient recipe discovered so far, according to Professor Solomon Katz, is a series of clay tablets in the Sumerian language which show the baking of bread which is then used to make a drink, quite possibly a form of beer as it is recorded as having made drinkers feel `exhilarated, wonderful and blissful`. As we move on, there are two interesting cookery books which appeared in the 14th Century ; a recipe book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary called `Curye on Inglish`. Don`t be fooled by the titles though, they are nothing to do with the indian curry that is familiar to us all today, but rather descriptions of the types of meals on the tables of the upper classes of those days. During the following few hundred years, the wealthy families of Wesstern Europe tried to lay on the most exotic meals, and because of this cooks and their recipe collections were highly sought after. Notwithstanding that, it was during the 1800s that fine cooking and recipe collections really came of age. Mrs Beeton in the UK, and Fannie Farmer in the US, dedicated the best years of their lives to collecting, trying out, and recording recipes for their fellow cooks to enjoy. By the advent of the 20th century, recipe publications are increasing in popularity mostly as a result of higher levels of literacy, people having more free time and being a little richer. |
