The History of Recipes
Transcribed cooking instructions as a concept can be observed far back into the far past, certainly as far into history as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and potentially, even further back. Interesting though that is, mostly, these early recipes were just very basic hieroglyphic recipes for preparing meals.
Continuing our culinary historical journey, we find a couple of interesting recipe books published in the fourteenth century ; a cookery book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary named `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are somewhat misleading tho`, they are unconnected to the spicy food that we all know today, but instead accounts of the types of food on the menues of the rich people of the period. When we get to the twentieth century, cookbooks were in high demand, as a result of higher levels of literacy, people having increased leisure time and having more disposable income. |
