The History of Recipes
It is actually possible to trace the history of written recipes back into the far past, at least as far into history as ancient Egypt, and maybe further still. In practice though, sadly, these old cookbooks were just primitive hieroglyphic recipes for food preparation.
Moving on, we have some recipe books which date from the 14th Century - one book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary titled `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are a little misleading though, they are unconnected to the indian curry that is popular today, but instead descriptions of the types of meals on the menus of the nobility of that time. By the advent of the 1900s, cooking publications were in great demand, mostly due to better eduction, people having more leisure time and having more money. |
