The History of Recipes
Historians have proved the existence of recipes way back into the distant past, certainly as far into history as early Egypt, and maybe even further. Having said that, in the main part, these early cook books were just very simple hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing meals.
As our culinary historical trip moves to more modern times there are a couple of interesting recipe books which appeared in the 1300s ; one book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary titled `Curye on Inglish`. Perhaps surprisingly, these two books have no connection with the indian food that appears on menues today, but rather descriptions of the types of meals on the menus of the upper classes of those days. In the 15th century, the Crusaders brought back many foods and herbs from Arab countries, including spices such as basil and coriander. These new foods and spices led to an outbreak in recipe publications, some of which still exist in academic collections. The introduction of television brought us cooking programs and the recipe books that accompanied them. And that neatly brings us to the present day and the invention of the internet, allowing us all to search through massive numbers of recipes like the ones you can find on sites such as the one you are reading now. |
We hope you enjoy this Chocolate Crumb Pie Shell recipe.
