The History of Recipes
It is quite feasible to trace the history of written cooking instructions way back into ancient history, in truth as far back into history as pharonic Egypt, and possibly even further. However, in the main part, these ancient records were just simple hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing meals.
Closer to modern times, we have a couple of interesting cookery books which were published in the 1300s : a cookery book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary named `Curye on Inglish`. Surprisingly, they are nothing to do with the indian food that appears on menues today, but rather accounts of the types of food prepared by the chefs of the nobility of those days. Later, in the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought us many new foods and spices from the East, such as parsley, basil and rosemary. These new herbs and spices was responsible for an outbreak in recipe publications, some of which still exist in private libraries. Like it or not, the introduction of TV brought us celebrity chefs and the demand for the accompanying recipe books. And that neatly brings us to the present day and the internet revolution, permitting everybody to access thousands of recipes like those on this site. |
We hope you enjoy this Chocolate Frosting Ii recipe.
