The History of Recipes
Food historians have tracked the existance of recipes far back into antiquity, in fact as far into history as the Egyptians, and possibly even further. Interesting though that is, these, old recipes were just very simple pictorial recipes for preparing food.
As our culinary historical trip moves on a few more years we find some interesting books from the 1300s : one book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary titled `Curye on Inglish`. Despite their titles, these two books are unconnected to the curry that we all know today, but rather accounts of the types of meals enjoyed by the rich people of that time. By the arrival of the 20th century, cook books are greatly in demand due to higher levels of literacy, more spare time and being a little richer. |
