The History of Recipes
Written recipes as an idea can be tracked back into the distant past, in truth as far back into recorded history as the early Egyptians, and maybe further still. In practice though, generally, these early recipes were just very simple pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing meals.
Continuing our culinary historical journey, there are a couple of interesting cookery books dating from the 14th Century : a recipe book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Don`t be fooled by the titles though, they are not about the indian curry that is served today, but rather recipes for the types of food eaten by the upper classes of that period. Later on, in the 15th century, the Crusaders brought back many new foods, spices and herbs from the holy land, including parsley, basil and rosemary. These new culinary innovations led to an increase in recipe books, the majority of which are now in private collections. The TV revolution brought us celebrity chefs and the spin-off recipe books. And that neatly brings us to the present day and the internet revolution, allowing everybody to search through thousands of recipes such as those found on sites such as the one you are reading now. |
We hope you enjoy this Chokecherry Liquor recipe.
