The History of Recipes
We can track the history of written recipes back into antiquity, at least as far back as pharonic Egypt, and maybe even further. In practice though, mostly, these old cookbooks were just primitive hieroglyphic instructions for food preparation.
Later on, there are two recipe books which were published in the 1300s : one book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary named `Curye on Inglish`. Despite their titles, they have no connection with the indian food that appears on menues today, but instead descriptions of the types of meals prepared for the rich and powerful of that time. By the advent of the twentieth century, cooking books were highly popular as a result of more people being able to read, increased leisure time and having more money. |
