Cider Syrup Recipe

Ingredients

3/4 cup sugar
2 tbsp cornstarch
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
2 cup apple cider (not juice)
2 tbsp lemon juice
1/4 cup margarine


Directions

Mix sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon and nutmeg in saucepan. Stir in apple
cider and lemon juice. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil one
minute. Blend in margarine. Serve warm.

In the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought back many spices and herbs from Arab countries, including parsley, basil and rosemary. The introduction of these new herbs and spices created a surge in recipe publications, many of which are kept safe in private libraries.
