The History of Recipes
It is quite feasible to track the history of written cooking instructions back into the distant past, in truth as far as ancient Egypt, and possibly even further. However, sadly, these early cookbooks were just primitive pictorial instructions for meal preparation.
Moving on, there are two interesting cookery books which date from the 1300s - one book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Surprisingly, these books have no connection with the spicy food that is popular today, but rather accounts of the types of meals on the menus of the nobility of the time. By the advent of the 1900s, recipe publications were increasing in popularity mostly due to more people being able to read, more spare time and having more money. |
