Cissie's Wine Cake Recipe

Ingredients

1 package duncan hines yellow cake mix
1 package instant vanilla pudding
4 eggs
1/3 cup crisco oil
1/3 cup medium or dry cream sherry
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp almond extract
1/2 cup nuts


Directions

Combine all ingredients except nuts and beat for 5 minutes. Stir in
nuts.
Pour in well-greased bundt or angel pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45
minutes. Cool for 5 or 10 minutes before turning out.

He also describes how the ancient chefs made use of many different aromatic flavors, including a few that will be familiar to modern cooks such as bay, mint and asafoetida.

Later on in the 1400s, knights returning from the crusades brought us a variety of foods, spices and herbs from the East, including spices like coriander, parsley, basil and rosemary. These new spices and herbs was responsible for an eruption in manuscripts on cookery, some of which are now in private cookery archives.

The introduction of the TV brought us TV chefs and the accompanying recipe books.

And that neatly brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, permitting us all to search through massive numbers of recipes like those on sites such as this.
