1/2 cup orange juice
3 tbsp honey
2 tbsp lemon juice
2 tsp . cornstarch
1 tsp dry mustard
1/4 tsp each grated orange and lemon peel
Directions
Whisk together all ingredients in small saucepan. Bring mixture to a
boil, stirring frequently, until sauce thickens. Serve warm.

The History of Recipes
It is actually possible to trace the history of recipes back into history, certainly as far back into history as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and maybe even further. Interesting though that is, sadly, these old recipes were just very simple hieroglyphic recipes for meal preparation.
The truth of the matter is, the oldest recipe found, according to historians is a collection of clay tablets in the Sumerian language which show the baking of bread which is then used to make a drink, quite possibly a form of beer as it is recorded as making those who drank it feel blissful. As we move into Roman times 25BC a man called Apicius compiled a few documents detailing recipes enjoyed by wealthy roman citizens. He recounts how the meals of wealthy Romans were separated into starters, main course and afters, a very modern way of dining. He also describes how the cooks of his times were skilled in the use of a good variety of spices, including some that we all recognise such as basil, rue and dill. Later, in the fifteenth century, the Crusaders brought back a variety of foods and spices from the East, including spices such as parsley and basil. These new foods and tastes was responsible for an increase in manuscripts on food, the majority of which are now in private cookery archives. The revolution that is television brought us TV cooks and the demand for the spin-off recipe books. And that neatly brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, allowing everyone to access massive numbers of recipes such as those found on this web site. |
