The History of Recipes
Historians have proved the existence of recipes way back into the distant past, certainly as far back into history as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and maybe even further. Having said that, these, early recipes were just primitive pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing meals.
As our culinary historical trip moves to more modern times there are a couple of recipe books published in the 1300s : a book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Don`t be fooled by the titles though, these two books are nothing to do with the indian curry that is served today, but rather descriptions of the types of food enjoyed by the rich and powerful of those days. By the arrival of the twentieth century, recipe books are highly popular as a result of higher levels of literacy, leisure time and a general increase in wealth. |
