The History of Recipes
Written recipes as an idea can be observed far back into distant history, in fact as far as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and possibly even further than that. Interesting though that maybe, generally, these early recipes were just primitive pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for preparing meals.
As our culinary historical trip moves on a few more years there are two books which appeared in the 1300s ; a recipe book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary named `Curye on Inglish`. Despite their titles, these two books are not about the spicy food that is served today, but rather accounts of the types of food prepared for the upper classes of the time. In the fifteenth century, the Crusaders brought back many new foods and herbs from the holy lands, including spices such as parsley and basil. The introduction of these new culinary ideas led to an increase in manuscripts on cookery, the majority of which are now in private cookery archives. The introduction of television brought us celebrity TV chefs and the demand for the accompanying recipe books. Which pretty much brings us up to date and the invention of computers and the internet, permitting everybody to access massive numbers of recipes such as those found on this site. |
We hope you enjoy this Cocoa Mix (Dry) recipe.
