The History of Recipes
We can track the history of written recipes way back into distant history, in truth as far into history as early Egypt, and maybe even further. However, generally, these early recipes were just very simple hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing meals.
Later, there are two interesting cookery books from the 1300s ; a cookery book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another titled `Curye on Inglish`. Don`t be fooled by the titles though, they have no connection with the indian food that is popular today, but rather accounts of the types of food on the menues of the upper classes of that period. Later on in the 1400s, the Crusaders brought back many new foods, spices and herbs from Arab cuisine, including spices such as basil and coriander. The introduction of these new foods and spices was responsible for an explosion in recipe publications, many of which are now in private cookery archives. The arrival of television brought us celebrity chefs and the spin-off recipe books. Which pretty much brings us to the present day and the invention of the internet, permitting everyone to access massive numbers of recipes like the ones you can find on this web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Cocoanut Meringues recipe.
