The History of Recipes
Academics have traced the existence of recipes way back into the far past, certainly as far into history as ancient Egypt, and maybe even further. Interesting though that is, in the main part, these ancient records were just very basic hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing meals.
As our culinary historical trip moves to more modern times we have a couple of interesting recipe books which date from the 1300s ; a book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary named `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are somewhat misleading tho`, these are nothing to do with the indian food that appears on menues today, but instead accounts of the types of food prepared by the cooks of the upper classes of that time. In the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought back many spices and herbs from the holy lands, including spices such as rosemary and coriander. These new foods and tastes prompted an outbreak in recipe publications, some of which are kept safe in private cookery archives. The introduction of television brings us cooking programs and the recipe books that accompanied them. Which brings us neatly up to date and the invention of the internet, allowing everyone to search through massive numbers of recipes just like those on this web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Coconut Creams recipe.
