The History of Recipes
Written recipes as a concept can be found back into history, in fact as far into history as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and possibly even further. Interesting though that is, generally, these ancient cookbooks were just very simple pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for food preparation.
In an interesting twist, the most ancient recipe discovered so far, according to academics are a few ancient tablets in the Sumerian language describing the preparation of bread which is then used to make a drink, quite possibly a form of beer as it is recorded as having made anyone who tried it feel `wonderful`. Moving our culinary historical trip onwards, there are some interesting books published in the 1300s : a cookery book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary called `Curye on Inglish`. Despite their titles, these are unconnected to the indian food that is served today, but rather recipes for the types of food on the tables of the nobility of those days. Over the succeeding few centuries, the wealthy families of Wesstern Europe strove to offer the most extravagent banquests, and because of this chefs and their collection of recipes were at a premium. However, it wasn`t until the 19th century that haute cuisine and cookery books rose to prominence. Mrs Beeton in the UK, and the equally famous Fannie Merritt Farmer in the US, dedicated their lives to assembling, trying out, and publishing recipes to allow everyone to enjoy them. The arrival of TV brought us TV chefs and the demand for the spin-off recipe books. Which pretty much brings us up to date and the invention of the internet, allowing us all to search through thousands of recipes like those on sites such as this. |
We hope you enjoy this Coconut Fluff Peaches~ Or Pears recipe.
