The History of Recipes
It is possible to track the history of `recipes` way back into the far past, in truth as far back as the Egyptians, and quite possibly further than that. Having said that, these, old cook books were just very basic hieroglyphic instructions for preparing meals.
Later, we have two books from the fourteenth century : a recipe book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary titled `Curye on Inglish`. Don`t be fooled by the titles though, they have no connection with the spicy food that appears on menues today, but rather recipes for the types of food on the tables of the rich and wealthy people of the time. By the time we get to the 1900s, cooking books are starting to become popular due to increased literacy, more leisure time and disposable income. |
