The History of Recipes
Transcribed cooking instructions as an idea can be found back into the far past, at least as far back into history as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and possibly even further. Having said that, these, ancient cook books were just very simple pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for meal preparation.
Continuing our culinary historical journey, we have a couple of interesting books published in the 1300s : a recipe book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another named `Curye on Inglish`. Don`t be fooled by the titles though, these books are not about the spicy food that appears on menues today, but rather descriptions of the types of food on the menues of the rich and wealthy people of that period. When we get to the twentieth century, cooking publications are in great demand, as a result of better eduction, more free time and being a little richer. |
