The History of Recipes
Written cooking instructions as a concept can be tracked back into history, in fact as far back as ancient Egypt, and quite possibly further than that. In practice though, generally, these early recipes were just very basic pictorial instructions for preparing meals.
Moving our culinary historical trip onwards, there are some interesting books which appeared in the fourteenth century - one book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Don`t be fooled by the titles though, these two books are nothing to do with the curry that is familiar to us all today, but instead recipes for the types of food prepared for the rich people of those days. Later, in the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought us many new foods and spices from the East, including coriander, parsley, and rosemary. These new culinary innovations was responsible for an outbreak in manuscripts on cookery, many of which are kept safe in private cookery archives. Like it or not, the introduction of TV brought us celebrity chefs and the demand for the spin-off recipe books. And that pretty much brings us to the present day and the invention of the internet, allowing everybody to search through massive numbers of recipes like the ones you can find on our site. |
We hope you enjoy this Cooked Ham recipe.
