1 corned beef for oven
1 roasting
4 cup shredded cabbage
1 cup chopped onion
3 cup hot, seasoned mashed
1 potatoes
1 chopped parsley (opt)
Directions
Prepare corned beef according to package directions.Toward the end of
the roasting,cook the cabbage and onion in a small amount of boiling
salted water for 15 minutes.Drain.Stir into mashed potatoes.Garnish
with chopped parsley,if desired.Serves 6.

The History of Recipes

In his works, he recounts how the meals were separated into hors d`oeuvre, main meal and dessert, a very modern way of dining. Additionally, he tells us how the cooks of his times made use of a good variety of herbs and spices, including a few that are still present in modern kitchens for example thyme, rue and dill. In the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought us many new foods and herbs from Arab countries, including rosemary and coriander. These new foods and tastes caused an eruption in recipe publications, the majority of which are now in academic collections. Over the following few centuries, the wealthy families of Europe tried to serve up the most extravagent meals, and as a consequence, the best cooks and their recipe collections increased in prestige. However, it wasn`t until the 19th century that haute cuisine and cookery books became really popular. Mrs Beeton in the UK, and the equally famous Fannie Farmer in the US, dedicated years of their lives to collecting, verifying, and recording recipes common in their social group. By the arrival of the twentieth century, recipe publications are increasing in popularity mostly as a result of more people being able to read, more leisure time and a general increase in wealth. The introduction of television brought us celebrity chefs and the demand for the accompanying recipe books. Which pretty much brings us up to date and the invention of computers and the internet, allowing everyone to search through massive numbers of recipes such as those found on our site. |
