The History of Recipes
Academics have tracked the existance of recipes far back into history, at least as far back into history as pharonic Egypt, and possibly even further than that. Having said that, sadly, these ancient recipes were just very simple pictorial instructions for preparing food.
As our culinary historical trip moves on a few more years we find some recipe books which were published in the 14th Century : a cookery book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary named `Curye on Inglish`. Amusingly, they are not about the curry that we all know today, but instead accounts of the types of meals cooked for the rich people of the period. In the fifteenth century, people returning from the crusades brought back many foods and spices from the holy land, such as basil and rosemary. These new spices and herbs was responsible for an increase in publications on food, most of which are now in private libraries. Like it or not, the introduction of television gave us TV cookery programs and the demand for the spin-off recipe books. Which brings us neatly up to date and the invention of computers and the internet, permitting everybody to access massive numbers of recipes such as those found on our web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Key Lime Pie From Fred Goslin recipe.
