The History of Recipes
Written cooking instructions as an idea can be found far back into the far past, at least as far back into recorded history as early Egypt, and possibly even further. Interesting though that maybe, in the main part, these old recipes were just very simple pictorial instructions for food preparation.
Continuing our culinary historical journey, there were two recipe books which were published in the 14th Century ; one book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another titled `Curye on Inglish`. Although the titles sound familiar, these two books are nothing to do with the curry that is familiar to us all today, but rather accounts of the types of food on the menus of the rich people of the period. When we get to the twentieth century, cookery books were highly popular mostly as a result of better eduction, people having more leisure time and having more money. |
